Material selection can often be made with little regard for the environment or if it is taken into account it could be due to greenwash or unsubstantiated claims from a manufacturer.
For example: ‘made from 95% recycled materials’ ‘low carbon material’, 90% lower carbon than PP ‘biodegradable’, where no evidence is offered from the supplier or the evidence is misleading.
The manufacturer could also make claims about the FSC credentials of their plywood surface veneers, but omits to talk about the source of the core or the toxicity of the glues and binders used.
Giraffe has extensive expertise in unravelling the truth about these materials using our in depth knowledge, diagnostics techniques and research.
Materials can also be over specified for certain applications and we can work with manufactures to look at alternative materials that could reduce material cost and carbon without reducing the reliability of the product.
